Begin with a visit to Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion). This three‑story Zen Buddhist temple is adorned with gold leaf on its upper floors, reflecting in the mirror pond to symbolize purity, wealth and spiritual transcendence. Originally built in 1397 as a retirement villa for Shōgun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. Later, walk through Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, where towering bamboo groves create a serene, other‑worldly atmosphere as sunlight filters through alongside gently swaying stalks.
Proceed to Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, famous for its Senbon Torii—rows of about 800 vermilion gates donated by individuals and businesses—honoring Inari, god of rice and prosperity. The torii tunnel leads up Inari mountain, with over 10,000 gates marking the path to spiritual realms. Later, attend a Japanese tea ceremony in Kyoto, experiencing the mindful, ritualized serving of matcha green tea in a traditional tearoom, rooted in Zen principles of harmony, respect, purity and tranquility.
